phillip lim i love thee

without comments

some of my picks from 3.1 phillip lim’s Resort 2009 collection (although i think the entire collection was gorgeous!- but these are my favourites):

i am totally loving the brights-neutrals combination. the man is my personal style inspiration. maybe i should start experimenting soon, seeing as spring is only 3 days away. :) i wish i could afford phillip lim’s amazing range at this point in time…….but. i shall save up for it like all the other good people out there, because money doesn’t come easy (for most of us at least).

OhHh and i bought new jeans today. dark wash & wide legged – atypical of me of indeed. but i was getting tired of the whole skinny jeans trend…… uninspiring. anyway they were half off from 100$ to 50$ then when i got to the checkout the guy said it was an extra 10$ off. ooh fate. :)

anyway i was meant to be reading up on personality disorders and nursing a fever but style.com was too distracting, as you can see.

was just browsing through j.crew’s catalogue when i came to the realisation that j.crew’s getting better and better over the years! (slow, i know) they have work clothes that i actually want to wear, or rather work clothes that i actually want to wear for events other than work. clicked on their store locator only to find that they have no stores outside of the U.S. of A.!! *cries* (or, am i just grossly misinformed?)

+ anyway i’m being lazy today, i skipped school, or rather hospital… just because.

in other news, i got all my births signed off! now i need to complete my gynae tasks, which actually is quite a lot… still it’s nice to be at home for a change, although i did want to go to theatre. i feel slightly slack BUT then i also have to pack for sydney (leaving on thursday arvo!) see, another reason to make myself feel better :)

alexa chung

my newfound style icon. isn’t she strikingly pretty! she looks gorgeous in both pictures, which goes to show that good-looking people can pull off even the frumpiest of sweatshirts. i want her hair (in second photo) please. it looks pretty low maintenance which is bliss for a lazy daisy like me. i also love that she has a boyish raspy voice and a cute personality to boot

two things today

with one comment

1. Marchesa

in what was apparently a rather drab NY fashion week, i think Marchesa’s Fall ‘08 collection was probably the saving grace of the entire event. i am enamoured with all things floral and have a particular soft spot for rosettes, hence Marchesa does it for me. i love it that some looks are edgy and some ethereal but all flowery and feminine at the same time. very very desirable and covetable, although i know i won’t be affording a Marchesa piece anytime soon.

2. McDimSim

Suze and I are crazily addicted to the dimsims from the hospital cafe. it all started when we had to stay back for night duty one day and needed something to fill our tummies. so we opted for the little snack-sized dimsims to munch on, and since then we have been eating at least ONE dimsim everyday. (one time we ate 5 each. and that was after lunch. *horrors*) suze calculated that at 80c apiece, we’d have spent 20 dollars on dimsims if we ate one everyday for the duration of our rotation. i don’t even know what a dimsim really is, so i googled it (as with all things that i am unsure of) and found that wikipedia had devoted an entire page to this humble meat dumpling. i never knew it was native in Australia, and that the unidentified meat filling actually is made up of pork and cabbages. for now i can’t decide if i like it steamed or fried. anyway it has been crazy, i literally have to drag Suze out of the cafe before we chalk up enough dimsim purchases to help the cafe owner purchase his next holiday home in Malibu.

Dear Marc,

without comments

what were you thinking?

normally, i am a big big fan of Marc Jacobs- i especially love his Marc by Marc Jacobs line for its cleanly-cut, refreshingly youthful styles without being overly cutesy. i just cannot say the same for his ready-to-wear fall 2008 collection for NY Fashion Week, which was plainly disappointing and uninspiring.

i don’t mean to be overly critical, but in my honest opinion it looks (quite) hideous (no offense Mr MJ, i still respect and admire your talent though).  some of them outfits with the odd-looking headpieces (that resemble rolled up towels on the models’ heads) and the very unflattering cuts, make for a very very depressing winter ahead.

obviously i am no Nina Garcia, and it’s not like Marc Jacobs is ever going to read my comments. so it’s back to my very wordy and boring paediatrics textbook for now.
